Is this Normal or Are We Crazy?
Violence is a common occurence in today’s world all over the globe. Media has made most of it… normal. But is it normal? Some of the things in the video were clips from our media. These things are slipped in and go right under the radar. They may be used for comedy, for a laugh, but what is so funny about harming someone or making them feel uncomfortable?
These types of acts happen all over the place, work, school, dinners, you name it, its probably happened there. Rape culture is a big thing that we must all fight in order to make a change, and to start making the people who engage in it, to feel uncomfortable. “Prior to the 1970’s, sexual harassment as a term did not exist, even though the workplace sexual violence did… When women experienced hostile, abusive, and violent workplaces, it was explained as having a “bad boss” or as further proof that women did not belong in the rough world of paid employment” (286). To think that at one point women didn’t have as many rights as men, boggles my mind. How can men treat women who could be someones mother, sister, or daughter like they are less than them. “We have normalized assault and harassment in the workplace because we’re afraid of being fired or receiving repercussions” (platformwomen.org).
These type of concerns should not be present in today’s society. We must become better than this. We must start challenging our assultants and reporting them. We must rise above the hate and start loving and caring for one another just as we would ourselves.
