Hello everybody!
My name is Alexis Helsley and I am a senior majoring in Entrepreneurship! I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and moved here 5 years ago to come to FGCU! When I’m not in school I am working full time as a dog groomer and raising my 3 dogs. When I get a long weekend off, I am most likely at a dog show in Lakeland or Ocala showing my standard poodle, named Mizani.

To start off I have never really seen myself as a feminist or someone who noticed a significant difference in men or women. But these two statements can be said that the feminist movement wants men and women to be equal, well for me I always thought we were already there. Until last semester when I took my first gender studies class I realized just how much harder women have it. I guess I never realized this because I grew up with such strong women influences that always told me I could do anything I wanted. My mother and my aunt were my biggest inspirations and role models. After taking that class I know just how important it is to try and educate others on the controversial subject of just how genders interact. We need to learn how to better communicate with each other!
